Beak Shaped

a wind blasted rock

a craggy battlement

rising from the Southern Ocean

a beak shaped island

seen by gannet and albatross

and above the salt spray

a sheltered crevasse

a rock grabbing plant

fingernail leaves of grey

another gale on the year's warmest day

quivering white petals

with yellow centres

throwing out a scent

past lichen circled rock

and a mass of bird nests
